In a case involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Court of Appeal in Abuja blocked two motions submitted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and fined him ₦100,000.
Akpabio sought to have the motions withdrawn, and on May 21, 2025, a three-member panel of justices, presided over by Justice Hamman Barka, rendered the decision.
The ruling was acquired on Tuesday evening in a certified accurate copy.
After Akpabio requested that the appeal be discontinued, the motions, which were filed on March 3 and March 25, 2025, with suit numbers CV/395/M1/2025 and CV/395/M2/2025, respectively, were stricken out.
The Senate’s Clerk of the National Assembly, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, and Senator Neda Imasuen, the head of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, were the respondents in this case.

On the grounds of mixed law and fact, Akpabio had petitioned the appellate court for permission to appeal the January 10, 2025, ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja (Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/384/2025).
He also arranges for a stay of proceedings in the lower court while he awaits the decision of his appeal and an extension of time to file his notice of appeal.
The Court of Appeal, however, approved his plea to have the motions withdrawn and struck them out as a result.
The application to withdraw the two motions dated and filed on March 20, 2025, and March 25, 2025, is granted, and the motions are struck out, the court said in its order. There is a ₦100,000 prize for the first respondent.
In addition, it was mandated that the appeal itself, designated CA/ABJ/PRE/ROA/CV/395M/2025, be removed from the court’s files.
