Daniel Bwala, the presidential spokesperson, has criticized Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender, for recent comments about the Bola Tinubu administration.
Bwala, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, suggested that Obi refrain from discussing June 12, 1993, since he believes the former governor of Anambra State was not involved in the democratic movement.
According to him, Obi was abroad at the time, conducting trade, and hence had no prior engagement in the conflict.
During the Democracy Day celebration, Obi asked Tinubu to emulate previous presidents Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan.
Obi asked the President to follow ex-President Yar’Adua’s lead and admit that the procedures by which he rose to power were defective.
He went on to say that the president should emulate Jonathan, who saved Nigeria’s democracy by admitting defeat.
Peter Obi and his supporters have continuously contended that irregularities plagued the 2023 presidential election and that the results should not have been ratified.

Obi further stated that there is no democracy in Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a post on 𝕏 on Friday evening, Bwala indicated that the former governor should avoid from talking on topics regarding Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
Bwala wrote, “Please clarify to me whether it is accurate that on June 12, 1993, and for several weeks afterward, @PeterObi Peter Gregory Obi was in Malaysia or elsewhere in Asia doing buying and selling trading business?
“I searched the internet to see any of his involvement in the struggle for democracy, I couldn’t see any link ohh.”
