Adewale Kudabo, a Nigerian medical worker, has been sentenced to one year in prison for sexually assaulting a patient under his care at York medical.
On the first day of his trial in April, Kudabo pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual assault and was sentenced to prison on June 10.
Judge Alex Menary ruled that Kudabo “abused the trust” put in him as a healthcare professional.
“You abused that trust,” Menary told Kudabo in court, emphasizing that the victim had placed her trust in him during a vulnerable time.
The prosecution claims Kudabo was assigned to bathe a patient in excruciating discomfort. After aiding her, he reportedly kissed her on the lips, which the victim attempted to avoid despite her condition.
According to Prosecutor Henry Fernandez, the victim was left puzzled and terribly uncomfortable.
Days later, Kudabo allegedly approached the same patient again, offering another “bed bath,” and attempting to kiss her again.
According to the court, the victim had substantial emotional suffering as a result of the incident, including anxiety and flashbacks.

Kudabo’s lawyer, Jerry Sodipe, portrayed him as sorry, despite his lack of prior criminal convictions.
“He has raised his hands to say, yes, he is guilty and he should not have done that,” Sodipe told the court.
Sodipe went on to say that Kudabo had migrated to the UK with his family from Nigeria for work but had since lost his job due to the event.
The York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs York Hospital, issued a statement expressing “sincere apologies” to the victim and confirming that Kudabo left his job shortly after the incident.
Judge Menary determined that Kudabo must serve half of his 12-month sentence before he is eligible for release.
