The Labour Party (LP) has condemned the recent mass murders in Benue State, calling for the rapid deployment of security forces to protect vulnerable populations across Nigeria’s North Central region.
The party described the assaults as “a new wave of senseless violence,” warning that Nigeria could not continue on this path.
Senator Nenadi Usman, the party’s National Caretaker Committee Chairman, reportedly urged for a thorough inquiry and speedy prosecution of the criminals, regardless of their rank or connections, in a statement issued on Monday.

Usman expressed deep regret at the deaths of over 100 people, including women, children, displaced people, and security officers, as well as the destruction of houses and livelihoods.
“These weren’t just numbers. They were humans, and their innocent lives were ruthlessly extinguished.

“Children who should have been safe were slaughtered. Mothers who should have been raising their families were buried in mass graves. Fathers who attempted to defend their homes were killed without mercy,” she claimed.

The Labour Party leader voiced regret at the continuous violence, citing the burning of homes, attacks on security officers, and ongoing assaults on displaced people as striking examples of the government’s unwillingness to protect its citizens.

“This bloodshed in Benue should shake everyone’s conscience.

“It’s not just a localized disaster; it’s a national scandal. The assailants’ brazenness and the victims’ vulnerability reflect a worrying lack of leadership and accountability,” Usman said.

In addition to military involvement, Usman pushed for a coordinated humanitarian response that would include food, shelter, medical care, and psychological support for those affected.

She challenged Nigerians to go beyond “routine condemnations” and demand actual changes, emphasizing that silence and apathy only strengthen those who commit acts of violence.

“As a mother, I weep with the families who have lost loved ones.

“The cries of the orphaned children, widowed women, and shattered communities have been heard. “Your pain is felt across the country, and your demand for justice must not be ignored,” she added.

She emphasized the Labour Party’s commitment to promoting policies that promote the safety and dignity of all Nigerians, particularly those living in rural and conflict-prone areas.

“Nigeria cannot continue like this,” Usman bemoaned.
