Veteran Nollywood actor Ganiu Nafiu, also known by his stage as Alapini, has apologized for backing President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
According to reports, Alapini bemoaned the disregard and lack of acknowledgment that followed Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election in an interview on YouTube titled “Behind the Fame – African A-List TV.”
Alapini stressed that he and many other veterans spent two months fighting for Tinubu in the hopes that their visibility and loyalty would be valued following the victory, but claimed that the hope they felt throughout the campaign season has subsequently turned into disappointment.
“Because Tinubu is someone we have loved for many years and he has been helpful to actors, we were campaigning with joy, thinking our messiah has arrived,” he said. We stood by him for two months because of this. For two months, we ran a campaign for him.
Alapini went on to say that although older actors were clearly present at campaign events, neither the All Progressives Congress nor Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, recognized their contributions.
The actor also mentioned his colleague Olaiya Igwe, who famously prayed for Tinubu’s election while nude on a beach, emphasizing that he has not been exempt from the curses placed against him.
Alapini criticized Seyi for concentrating his charitable endeavors in Northern Nigeria, implying that Yoruba villages had been neglected.

He went on, “Would Seyi say that he didn’t notice us old people when we were out there campaigning?
Was Seyi that blind that he failed to recognize the older actors and us? We had more than a hundred. Young and old, we were all out and about.
Even in places where some people couldn’t run campaigns, we ran campaigns.
“We received nothing from them. While we were running for office, we were being cursed in comment sections.
Because of Tinubu, my friend Olaiya Igwe stripped naked on the beach.
He hasn’t been free of the curses that were placed on him until now.
“Currently, Seyi is rushing around the North to cover their medical expenses.” Aren’t there also sick folks in Yorubaland? How many hospitals throughout Yorubaland has he been to pay for patients’ bills?
