Senator Orji Kalu, who represents Abia North in the National Assembly and chairs the Senate Committee on Privatization, has declared that his presidential ambitions will be postponed till President Bola Tinubu’s second term is completed.
Kalu stated that despite his desire to run for president, he cannot compete with the party, which has already approved President Bola Tinubu for a second term until 2031.
On Tuesday, the legislator told reporters in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area, Abia State, that his presidential ambition has been put on hold and will be rekindled once Tinubu completes his second term in office.

He stated, “I am an APC member, and our party has handily approved President Tinubu. So, even if I have presidential ambitions, they are on hold for the time being because I cannot challenge the party. The party is supreme. President Tinubu enjoys party supremacy and will be elected as President. After President Tinubu in 2031, who says I can’t run for President again? “It is possible.”

The lawmaker further stated that if the people deemed him worthy of re-election, he will run for the Abia North senatorial district seat again in 2027.

He stated, “In 2027, I will run for reelection to the Senate. I will run if our people believe I am qualified. In six years as a senator, he has built over 187 highways, whereas I have built over 123 primary schools.

Speaking about President Tinubu’s success during the last two years, Kalu stated, “I work closely with him. In just two years, the President has done an excellent job. If we can provide him with the rewards of finishing another two years and serving another term, I believe the economy will undergo significant adjustments.”

The Abia senator said the endorsement of President Tinubu for another second term is not rushed, as is being speculated in some places, and that the party did the correct thing to urge him to do more.

According to him, “The party did the correct thing because we are in the midterms and we need to encourage the President to do more. The incumbent President has the right to run for reelection, and we will fully support him.
