Manchester City began their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign confidently with a 2-0 victory over African champions Wydad Casablanca at King Abdullah Sports City on Wednesday evening.
Pep Guardiola’s side wasted no time in establishing their quality, keen to reestablish their global domination after finishing third in their domestic league.
Phil Foden broke the deadlock in the second minute with a sharp finish off a fast passing move that caught the Moroccans off guard.
City maintained possession and tempo, looking for cracks in a well-organized Wydad defense.
Their perseverance paid off again in the 42nd minute, when Jérémy Doku, who had been lively on the sides, increased the lead with a superb shot to round off a quick attacking sequence.
While there were less clear-cut chances in the second half, Manchester City maintained control, limiting Wydad to speculative efforts and isolated counterattacks.

In the other Group E encounter, Inter Milan and Monterrey were tied 1-1 in Pasadena, with Lautaro Martinez canceling out Sergio Ramos’ opener.
