Namadi Sambo, Nigeria’s former Vice President, has disputed claims that he has switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress.
According to the rebuttal, which was released in a press statement to Media Adviser Umar Sani, the report regarding Sambo’s defection is a fabrication intended to deceive the people.
It went on to say that the widely distributed photo of Sambo with Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, which was used to back up the defection tale, was an old one.
According to the statement, the former Vice President is a dedicated and committed member of the PDP and has no plans to join any other political party.
“Rebuttal to False Claims of Defection by Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, GCON.”
“My attention has been attracted to a widely circulated report that His Excellency, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, GCON, former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This allegation is completely untrue and lacks any foundation.
“In response to several calls and concerns, I have taken the opportunity of issuing this formal refutation on His Excellency’s family’s behalf. I categorically assert that the report is a fabrication filled with deception and intended to mislead the public.

“The photograph confirming this fabrication, which shows His Excellency with Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani, was taken some time ago. It was taken years ago during the Governor’s condolence visit to His Excellency’s residence in Abuja after the death of his brother, the late Sani Sambo. The image is now purposefully manipulated to fit a manufactured story.
“His Excellency is also slated to attend the commissioning of a 300-bed hospital in Kaduna on Thursday, June 19, 2025. This project, which he launched while in office, demonstrates his unwavering dedication to public service and Kaduna State’s growth. His invitation to witness the completion of this legacy project and potentially provide a few remarks should not be interpreted as a political endorsement or confirmation of any partisan change.
“To be clear, His Excellency, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, remains a dedicated and committed member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He has no plans to join any other political party. The defection narrative is merely a fiction of its creators’ imagination, designed to sow uncertainty and gain cheap political traction.
“We urge the public and the media to disregard this misinformation and treat it with the contempt it deserves.”
