Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the former presidential political adviser, has disassociated himself from the coalition negotiations that are currently underway to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the general elections of 2027. Baba-Ahmed firmly declared in a media exclusive that he is not involved in any coalition preparation or conversations.
I want to make it obvious that I have no involvement whatsoever in the coalition talks. “As an observer, I am concerned about the mishandling of an opportunity to establish a powerful opposition,” Baba-Ahmed stressed.

Deep concern, he said, overshadowed the pressing need for a real political alternative by what he called misguided objectives and personal aspirations.
“Those promoting themselves as the spokespersons for this opposition are flawed. He went on to say that Nigerians should have new, visionary leaders instead of re-elected politicians that want to seize power without a clear plan for the nation.
A new political party’s ability to register in time for the elections was also questioned by Baba-Ahmed, who cited the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) backlog of applications.
In contrast to merely trying to unseat the current government, he urged individuals supporting the proposed alliance to concentrate on restoring public confidence and offering real answers to the nation’s problems.
Baba-Ahmed came to the conclusion that “if we are serious about change, it must be about the future of Nigeria and not just about picking a different group of politicians.”
His comments coincide with an intensifying public discussion on the opposition’s preparedness to present a serious challenge to the APC in 2027.
