Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, has alleged that the party’s interim Chairman, Umar Damagum, triggered the issue by directing Sam Anyanwu to resume as its National Secretary.
It was noted that Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye were at odds over who should hold the position of PDP National Secretary.
Damagum, on the other hand, led a high-powered PDP delegation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters on Tuesday in an attempt to resolve the situation.

Damagum instructed Anyanwu to return to the PDP National Secretariat after the visit, but FCT Minister Nyesom Wike objected.
Wike argued that Damagum was unable to issue such an order since Anyanwu was not his appointee.
However, in an interview with Arise Television, Ologbondiyan maintained that Damagum had violated the PDP’s constitution by ordering Anyanwu to resume his duties as National Secretary.
He stated, “When it comes to our party’s crisis, I believe the floodgates have just been opened since Damagum’s unilaterally commanding Anyanwu to resume office as National Secretary violated the party’s constitution in ways that I cannot articulate.
“The NEC, which is superior to the National Working Committee and second only to the party’s national convention, made a decision at the 99th meeting, held at Legacy House in Abuja.
“It said, well, we have taken the complaint of the Southeast, who are complaining that their nomination was not approved, therefore we will now make a decision at the next NEC meeting on June 30th.
“How can a small number of individuals go and sit somewhere so that the person whose office is in question can resume?
“This is outside the resolution of the NEC, do we still have a party?”
