Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended governor of Rivers State, and Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, the suspended speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, have all appeared in public for the first time.
The public appearance was said to have taken place just two days after President Bola Tinubu mediated a settlement between the opposing factions over the political crisis in Rivers State.
Prior to Thursday’s peace conference with President Tinubu, the three major political personalities had been embroiled in a political crisis for almost two years. The parties resolved their disputes and decided to cooperate for the sake of the state.
In Rumuepirikom, the FCT Minister’s hometown in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Fubara, Wike, and Amaewhule attended the funeral of Wike’s uncle.
Important political figures such as Senators Olaka Nwogu, George Thompson Sekibo, and Allwell Onyesoh were also in attendance at the funeral service.
Other notable figures include former House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, former House of Representatives Member Hon. Ken Chikere, South-South ACP Vice Chairman Victor Giadom, and former PDP Deputy National Chairman Dr. Sam Sam Jaja.
The appearance of the three political leaders in one location has rekindled optimism that the crisis that resulted in the creation of a state of emergency three months ago may be coming to a conclusion, even though no political pronouncements were made during the occasion.
