Bukola Saraki, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Reconciliation Committee, believes additional defections are possible, despite efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Senate President stated this on Friday during an appearance on Arise TV’s ‘Prime Time’ programme.

Saraki also expressed concern about the ongoing argument over who should hold the job of National Secretary.
“The PDP is likely to see one or two more defections, and we should be prepared for this possibility. We have not seen the worst of the PDP defections. He predicted that one or two governors and some senators would defect.

According to him, the timing of the crisis was advantageous, as it allowed the PDP time to heal and rebuild before the election season began in full gear.

“For some of us, having this happen early in the PDP is advantageous. We are fortunate that this is not happening in late 2026, as we would not have had time to recuperate and regroup,” he said.

The former governor of Kwara State stated that, despite the national crises, the PDP remained strong at the grassroots and across state organizations.
Saraki expressed confidence that the party was already preparing the groundwork for the 2027 elections, but cautioned that the risks extend beyond mere party survival.
