Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, has proposed a single term, which northerners would find hard to believe, according to Yabagi Sani, the chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).
According to reports, Peter Obi declared his willingness to adhere to a four-year term in power if he wins the 2027 presidential election during an X Space on Sunday with his supporters.
But in an appearance on Tuesday’s episode of Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Sani claimed that none of the candidates for president in 2027—including Peter Obi—are perfect.
According to the notion of power rotation, Sani stated that Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who is running for reelection to finish his eight-year term, should be succeeded by a president from the northern area.
According to the IPAC chair, Northerners will find it hard to accept Peter Obi since the balance of power shifts when politicians take office.

“Yes, Mr. Peter Obi can agree to say, ‘I am going to do one term,’ but the northerners will tell you that if Bola Tinubu wins the (second) election after his term, it should come to the north,” he stated.
However, we are human. Absolute power corrupts totally. Peter Obi is not an alien; he is not a saint. We have witnessed successive administrations attempting to amend the constitution in order to grant themselves a third term and other privileges.
Because of this, many people would find it hard to accept that Mr. Peter Obi would quit after just one term. If you consider the sentimental nature of it, state capture, and the force of incumbency, how would he even succeed?
