According to Rotimi Amaechi, a former Transportation Minister and two-term governor of Rivers State, Nigeria was safer and more economically sound during the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
President Bola Tinubu, according to Amaechi, was never the best person to lead Nigeria.
The accusations were reportedly made by the former minister on Wednesday in Abuja when the African Democratic Congress (ADC) interim national leadership was unveiled.
According to the former All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, he has doubted Tinubu’s ability to lead and cautioned that the current government has fallen short of Nigerians’ expectations.
“I have never thought Tinubu is a suitable candidate to lead the nation,” Amaechi stated bluntly.
In light of the present economic and security issues, he said, many Nigerians are wishing that former President Muhammadu Buhari, who he served as minister under for eight years, would return.

“People want Buhari because under his administration, things were better,” Amaechi stated.
According to reports, Amaechi’s remarks coincide with his increasing support for opposition groups working under the ADC platform to weaken the APC’s grasp on power in the run-up to the general elections in 2027.
During the event, the ADC’s temporary leadership—which includes well-known politicians including former Senate President David Mark and former Governor Rauf Aregbesola—was formally introduced.
Since losing to Tinubu in the APC’s 2022 presidential primary, Amaechi has spoken out more and more against the leadership of his former party and the country’s course.
