The African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s scheduled launch as a unifying political platform for Nigeria’s opposition has been pushed back.
The venue where the event was scheduled to take place abruptly cancelled a fully paid reservation just hours before the event on Wednesday.
However, on Wednesday morning, organizers were informed that the hotel would no longer be hosting the event owing to an undefined “internal compliance matter.”
Dele Momodu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, posted a screenshot of the hotel’s notice on his Instagram page.
The message said, “Dear Esteemed Patron, Thank you again for selecting the Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments.
We regret to notify you that owing to an internal compliance issue that has recently come to our knowledge, we are unable to hold your scheduled event.
“We are fully aware that the event is less than 24 hours away, and we deeply apologise for the timing and inconvenience this may cause.”

The abrupt cancellation has elicited strong reactions from opposition figures, with Momodu accusing political intervention.
“The intimidation of opposition by a jittery government continues as the coalition’s booking of a venue for the unveiling of its adopted party, ADC, has been unilaterally and suddenly cancelled by the hotel’s management due to what insiders described as fear of reprisals from APC operatives.”
“But this will not dampen the daredevil determination of opposition forces who are poised to hotly challenge the ruling party,” Momodu said.
