Insurgents from Boko Haram attacked the town of Malam Fatori in Borno state’s Abadam LGA, killing nine people and wounding four more.
According to reports, the incident took place 272 kilometers from the state capital, Maiduguri.
The state administration said that Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno, sent a delegation to offer condolences to the victims.
Sugun Mai Mele, the commissioner for local government and emirate affairs, served as the team’s leader.
The statement said, “We are here to offer our condolences to the people of Malam Fatori for the recent unfortunate attack at the request of His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who is currently abroad on an official assignment.”
He promised that every effort would be made by the military and the government of Borno State to safeguard the town.
Because of its strategic significance, we are dedicated to maintaining the stability of Malam Fatori, one local government area. We encourage the populace to be more resilient and to pray in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In order to prevent future attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents, the commissioner announced that excavators would be used to construct trenches around the local government headquarters.
Residents were cautioned by Mai Mele not to work with insurgents in any way, as anyone found guilty would suffer divine repercussions.
The four injured victims each received N250,000 as part of the government’s assistance, while each bereaved family received N500,000.
