Former Kogi West senator Tunde Ogbeha has dissolved his affiliation with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter to the PDP Ward A chairman in Lokoja LGA, Ogbeha said that the party had lost its way and had devolved into a shell of its former self.
“I am composing this message to formally notify you of my decision to leave the party with immediate effect,” he wrote.
Even though many people left the PDP following the 2015 general election, Ogbeha claimed he stayed faithful to the party.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP’s principles, saying, “You may remember that I have remained firm and deeply committed over the years.”
“I vowed to be the last man standing once we lost the 2015 presidential election, even though almost all party members left.”
Following the party’s collapse, the former senator claimed to have worked to rebuild and reposition it.
“I have worked tirelessly to rebuild, reconcile, and reposition the party — efforts which, without coming across as immodest, helped restore the PDP to national relevance and made it a number of Nigerians’ preferred party once again,” he stated.

The party is now a shell of its former self and is being ridiculed by the public as a result of recent events characterized by widening divides, a continued leadership crisis, and irreconcilable conflicts.
In an attempt to save our country and protect our hard-won democracy, I have decided to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after extensive discussions with my family, friends, and political allies.
Ogbeha, 80, served in the Senate from 1999 and 2007.
Under General Ibrahim Babangida’s military administration, he was the administrator of Akwa Ibom and the former Bendel state. He is a retired brigadier general.
