The tech behemoth Meta has issued an apology after one of its auto-translation tools unintentionally declared the passing of Siddaramaiah, the current Karnataka chief minister and an Indian politician.
Following Siddaramaiah’s Kannada-language Instagram post on Tuesday, in which he lamented the death of famous Indian actress B. Saroja Devi, the mistake occurred.
The statement was erroneously altered by the platform’s auto-translation technology to imply that Siddaramaiah had passed away.
Reports claim that the chief minister had paid respects to the late actress after passing away, according to the faulty English translation.

Following the incident, Meta said in a statement on Thursday that the translation problem had been fixed.
The business expressed regret for the error and assured that it had been resolved.
“We resolved a bug that momentarily resulted in this incorrect Kannada translation. “We are sorry that this occurred,” a Meta representative stated.
Siddaramaiah’s office became aware of the issue and voiced concerns about Meta’s auto-translation function, particularly for Kannada-language content.
His office wrote to the business that the tool’s translations were frequently inaccurate and occasionally quite deceptive.
They cautioned that these mistakes can cause misunderstandings, particularly when they impact government leaders’ public remarks.
