An alliance of youth organizations from more than 1,000 APC support groups in North Central Nigeria has declared its intention to send a delegation of 100 people to Senate President Godswill Akpabio to urge him to support Senator Mohammed Sani Musa for the role of APC National Chairman.

At an emergency meeting Thursday in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa state, the young leaders made the decision. They were discussing the North Central geopolitical zone’s political destiny and the necessity of strategic positioning in front of the general elections in 2027.

Comrade Dan Okwa, the convener of the North Central APC Youth Vanguard, signed a communiqué at the conclusion of the meeting in which the groups reaffirmed their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection campaign. They also stated that achieving this goal would necessitate a strong, practical, and politically astute party leadership.

At the table of power, we think the North Central must be seen as well as heard. In order to head the APC in 2027, we must restructure our internal political structure and appoint one of our most capable and seasoned candidates,” the group stated.

The coalition says that Senator Sani Musa, who chairs the Senate Committee on Finance and represents Niger East in the National Assembly, has shown the kind of dedication, vision, and grassroots knowledge required to stabilize and reposition the ruling party for electoral success over the years.

In addition, Okwa said, “He is a man who has demonstrated unwavering commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, understands the inner workings of the APC, and appreciates its vision.”

For this reason, we are sending a group of 100 people to see Senate President Godswill Akpabio within the next week in order to make our case and ask for his support for this crucial mission.

Although other notable candidates from the North Central, such as Senator Tanko Al-Makura, a former governor of Nasarawa, have expressed interest in leading the party, the youth coalition stated that Sani Musa is a generational bridge who blends experience with a forward-thinking outlook.

As a renowned elder and party builder, Senator Al-Makura is one of the candidates we respect the most. We firmly believe, however, that the APC needs a younger, more energetic, and unifying figure to inspire the party base, especially the youth, at this pivotal juncture in our country’s history. Senator Sani Musa is the one in question,” the statement said.

The organizations also took advantage of the occasion to urge APC political stakeholders and elders, particularly those from the North Central area, to pressure Senator Sani Musa to formally express interest in the role of national chairman and spearhead the initiative to increase the region’s clout in national politics.

Okwa stated that the group traveling to Akpabio will submit a comprehensive petition that includes the youth summit resolutions and a summary of the North Central zone’s strategic contribution to the APC’s survival since its founding.

From organizing large-scale voter turnout to supporting the party in trying times, the North Central has consistently supported the APC. We think that the party should now honor capacity and loyalty,” he stated.

Prior to the APC National Convention, the youth coalition also pledged to increase mobilization throughout the North Central states and the Federal Capital Territory. They reiterated that their campaign is not only about regional inclusion but also about restoring party discipline, restoring trust, and setting up the APC for future successes.

Important leaders from all zones, not only the North Central, will be contacted. The APC’s future is at stake here, and we think Senator Sani Musa is the best person to get us there,” Okwa said.

Senate President Akpabio is scheduled to meet with the delegation in Abuja later this week.
