Lamido: Kwankwaso, Ganduje’s Dispute Is Personal and Beyond Mediation

Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa State, has stated that the icy relationship between Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the political leader of Kano, and his estranged former deputy, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, will not be resolved because it is very personal.

In an interactive session with reporters at his Sharada office in Kano, Lamido discussed various matters of national significance and claimed that ego was the driving force behind the rivalry between the Kano political gladiators.

“Kwankwaso and Ganduje are twin brothers; their fight is about ego, and until and unless they choose to lower it for the interest of Kano, the frosty relationship will continue to defy third party intervention,” stated Lamido, a senior political figure in North-West Nigeria.

In his words, “they have been together, know each other too well, and have worked closely for two long years, but have been fueling the crisis with ego.”
Since the complexities of the argument are so intensely personal, Lamido insisted that “the solution to bury the hatchet lies with the two personalities, because no external influence can resolve it.”

Speaking about the proposed idea to establish more states in Nigeria, the PDP mainstay advised stakeholders to proceed with prudence.

The Talakawa philosopher said that, given the numerous issues plaguing the country, the desire to establish new states in Nigeria shouldn’t take precedence.

“You know, the parts no longer trust one another. We are discussing the North and the South.
We’re discussing Muslim-Muslim relations. We’re talking about Christians refusing. Lamido emphasized, “I mean, there are so many issues that rip us apart that must be given attention.

“Above all, you know, there’s insecurity,” the PDP leader clarified. Wherever you are, you are unsure of your safety.

“And then, of course, the hunger and poverty,” he added. Thus, some priorities ought to be established. However, I don’t mind if this security issue is resolved in some way.
