On Thursday, July 24, 2025, another gloomy day came when gunmen posing as Fulani bandits ambushed a car returning from Plateau State’s well-known Bokkos market, murdering 14 people, including infants and women.
The victims were ambushed and slain along Chirang Road in the Mangor District of the LGA, according to witnesses who described the incident. They were returning home from the weekly market after conducting their business.
One of the witnesses, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed that when the car came up, the heavily armed guys stopped the road and started shooting intermittently, killing the victims and wounding numerous more.
It was shocking that some bandits would continue to kill innocent people in spite of multiple peace and reconciliation meetings and attempts to mediate peace between the council’s farming and herding communities, according to Farmasum Fuddang, chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Forum (BCDF), who also confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday.

The victims’ vehicle was ambushed as they were making their way back from Bokkos town’s weekly market. In the statement, Fuddang stated that women and infants were among the victims.
The chairman declared, “This violence persists in spite of numerous so-called peace and reconciliation initiatives.”
Fuddang was unreserved in his accusations that Fulani militias were responsible for the attack, stating unequivocally that their objective was to seize control of the entire local government area, which is known as Nigeria’s potato headquarters.
