The Benue State town of Yelwata is under stress following the suspected commencement of another deadly attack by gunmen early on Monday, August 11.
The local women staged a protest, blocking roads and calling for the soldiers stationed in the region to return to their barracks after the repeated assault, according to information obtained.
According to reports, the irate locals demanded to be moved to Makurdi, the state capital, claiming they no longer felt comfortable in their homes.
According to the Daily Post, one of the demonstrators bemoaned, “They should take us to Makurdi because the government cannot protect us.”

The tragedy on Monday was said to occur less than two months after a nighttime attack on June 13 that claimed the lives of over 200 people in the same hamlet, including internally displaced people, and was purportedly carried out by armed herders.

The act stunned the country and was widely condemned, with several victims apparently burned alive.

To date, police have not released an official comment regarding the most recent occurrence, though.

More information soon.
