Shortly after the exam results were announced, a dental student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) apparently took his own life.
The OAU Dental Students’ Association (IFUDSA) confirmed the death in a statement signed by Adebayo Idris, the organization’s president, calling the occurrence a tragic loss.
According to reports, the association said that many students might be in shock as a result of the tragedy and encouraged them to support one another and seek assistance.
The declaration also restated IFUDSA’s dedication to enhancing mental health services and student welfare.
“We regret to inform you of the passing of one of our colleagues in the Faculty of Dentistry,” the statement says. We learned the tragic news that he committed suicide not long after the test results were made public.

This loss serves as a devastating reminder of the silent struggles that many students endure in addition to marking the departure of a bright young mind. We as a group are inconsolable and offer our deepest sympathies to his friends, family, classmates, and everyone else who knew him.
We recognize that many people will be in shock by this tragedy, with difficult-to-process feelings and questions.
We urge all of our faculty colleagues to support one another, reach out to one another, and seek professional assistance as necessary. No one should ever feel alone in their challenges since mental health is equally as vital as physical health.
