Apostle Johnson Suleiman, the senior pastor and general overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, has pledged support for the Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the campaign towards combatting drug abuse and promoting a healthier society.

The religious leader gave the assurance while receiving the Edo State Commander of the anti-drug Agency, Mitchell Ofoyeju, during an advocacy visit to the ministry’s headquarters, Restoration City, in Auchi, Edo State. The visit aimed to seek the church’s support in raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and mobilising communities for drug-free initiatives.

The advocacy visit coincides with the ministry’s ongoing International Women Conference 2025 with the theme, ‘Let God Arise’. Commander Mitchell emphasised the vital role women play in shaping societal behaviours. “Women are the backbone of families and communities, and their involvement in prevention initiatives can have a lasting impact. Empowering them with relevant knowledge and skills is crucial in the fight against drug abuse,” Mitchell stated.

Commander Mitchell also emphasised the critical role religious leaders play in influencing societal values and behaviours. In his words, “We are here to seek collaboration with your esteemed ministry in addressing the drug problem. The issue of drugs affects individuals, families and society at large. We recognise the power of spiritual leadership in disseminating information and advocating for a drug-free society. Your vital role as a moral compass in addressing social vices is highly appreciated. The drug problem is real, and we wish to engage the enormous influence of your ministry in guiding individuals, especially the youth, towards making healthier choices.”

Apostle Suleiman expressed his solidarity with the NDLEA’s mission, highlighting the devastating effects of drug abuse on families and communities. “As a church, it is our duty to stand against any form of societal vice that destroys lives. We are ready to partner with the NDLEA to spread the message of prevention and to encourage young people to make wise decisions,” he said.

Both leaders acknowledged the need for comprehensive strategies that involve families, schools, religious institutions, and other stakeholders to effectively combat the drug menace. They agreed on initiating awareness campaigns that would engage the youth and community members. The NDLEA will work closely with Omega Fire Ministries to provide resources and expert guidance on addressing drug-related issues.

The visit represents a growing coalition between faith-based organisations and law enforcement agencies in the fight against drug abuse in Nigeria. The NDLEA Edo State Commander concluded the meeting by thanking Apostle Suleiman for his support and commitment to anti-drug abuse enlightenment.
