The Delta State Police Command has launched a crackdown on criminal in the state.
The coordinated operations across the state capital Asaba ,led to multiple arrests, recovery of firearms, and the interception of a truck laden with illicit drugs.
The operations, carried out between October 1 and 3, 2025, involved officers of the ‘B’ Division Asaba, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and Eagle Net Special Squad (ENSS).
According to Delta state police public relations officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, the first success came on October 1, when operatives from ‘B’ Division, led by CSP Edewor Akponegware, swiftly responded to a distress call at the BONSAAC axis of Asaba, where two men had robbed a female victim at gunpoint. ” Acting on intelligence and with support from local vigilantes, the team cordoned off the area and arrested one of the suspects, Amara Nwako, 21, recovering a locally made pistol. ” Preliminary investigation revealed the suspect’s link to a notorious cult group, Arobaga secret cult, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend his fleeing accomplice.
” In a related development, the Command’s Eagle Net Special Squad (ENSS), led by SP Danyaya Yunusa, intercepted a truck suspected of transporting illegal substances along the Asaba route on October 2. Working in collaboration with the Office of the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Illicit Drugs and Human Trafficking, the team arrested the driver, Dennis Uruma, 52, of Kogi State, after discovering large quantities of suspected illicit drugs concealed in the vehicle. The arrest marks a major disruption of drug distribution networks ahead of the Yuletide season.
” The following day, October 3, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), under the command of CSP Nosa Alex, raided a criminal hideout in the Basket Market area of Asaba, acting on credible intelligence. The operation led to the arrest of three suspects, Rabbi Godwin, 25, Lucky Nanakumo, 20 and David Igwe, 19, and the recovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol, believed to have been used in recent armed robbery attacks within the area.”
Speaking on the Command’s renewed offensive against criminals, CP Abaniwonda commended the efforts of his men and assured residents that the police would sustain intelligence-driven operations to curb cultism, armed robbery, and drug trafficking across the state.
“These arrests and recoveries are proof of our proactive strategy. We will continue to strike criminal gangs and dismantle their networks before they strike,” the CP said, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
The Delta Police Command emphasized that these operations form part of its larger plan to ensure a crime-free festive season through strategic deployments, inter-agency collaboration, and public cooperation.
