The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an ex-convict, Segun Kolawole, 25, just five days after his release from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, alongside two suspected pickpockets, Sodiq Isa, 27 and Adekanmbi Ganiu ,21, for various theft-related offences across different parts of the state.
The ex-convict, Segun Kolawole, was arrested at about 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Oshodi Market, after operatives the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Command observed his suspicious movement.
According to Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer( PPRO), CSP Abimbola Adebisi, he was found in possession of ₦80,000 and an Infinix Note 40 Pro phone, both traced to a burglary he had earlier committed at Opebi, where he stole ₦200,000 and the mobile device from a sleeping trader.
” Further investigation revealed that he had already used part of the stolen proceeds to purchase new clothes and shoes, which were also recovered from him.
” In a separate operation at about 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, RRS operatives arrested Sodiq Isa and Adekanmbi Ganiu for attempting to steal mobile phones from unsuspecting commuters in different parts of Lagos. Both suspects were swiftly apprehended before they could flee with their loot. Preliminary investigation reveals their modus operandi involves targeting commuters and pedestrians during rush hours, particularly in crowded areas.
” They specialise in snatching phones and wallets in traffic congestion or while victims are boarding commercial vehicles. The operatives’ swift response prevented further thefts, and the recovered exhibits have since been returned to their rightful owners.
” The suspects are currently in lawful custody and undergoing further investigation at the Rapid Response Squad Headquarters. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, they will be arraigned before a competent court of law to face charges appropriate to their offences, in accordance with the law. The Command assures members of the public that due process will be strictly followed to ensure justice is served.”
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Moshood Jimoh, commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism, and swift response.
