The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a commercial taxi driver, Adedayo Ben Adegbola, for multiple reports of rape, defilement, assault, and armed robbery against female passengers.
The suspect’s photograph went viral on social media for allegations of rape, robbery and other criminal activities.
Acting on the directives of the Commissioner of Police(CP) Olohundaire Jimoh, crack team of detectives from the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID), Panti ,Yaba, launched a discreet and painstaking investigation that led to Adegbola’s arrest on October 31, 2025, at about 9:40 a.m.
The suspect was apprehended alongside his operational vehicle, a red Toyota Corolla ,with registration: number JJJ 226 HT, which was allegedly used in perpetrating the series of violent crimes across different parts of Lagos.
According to a statement by Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO)SP Abimbola Adebisi, the suspect has been positively identified by several victims, some of whom had earlier shared his image online in desperate pleas for justice.
“The Police have secured the recovered vehicle as evidence while investigations continue to track down other accomplices believed to have worked with the suspect.
“The Lagos State Police Command has also urged victims of the suspect’s attacks to come forward to the SCID, Panti, to provide additional information and evidence. The Command assured that all victims’ identities will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
” Reiterating his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence, CP Jimoh reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for all survivors and maintaining public safety across the State.
“He further pledged that the police would provide continuous updates as investigation progresses.”
