Five officers of the Bauchi State Police Command have been killed while two others sustained injuries after a police tactical team was ambushed by Fulani youths in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government of the state.
The tragic incident occurred on November 22 at about 12:40 pm, during a visibility patrol aimed at preventing and managing farmers/herders conflict in the area.
in a statement, Bauchi State police public relations officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said the officers came under heavy attack while on routine patrol.
The combined tactical team comprised personnel of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), 10 PMF Bauchi, Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) and the State Intelligence Department (SID).
The attack claimed the lives of: DSP Ahmad Muhammad; ASP Mustapha Muhammed; Inspector Amarhel Yunusa;Inspector Idris Ahmed and Corporal Isah Muazu.
Those injured include: Inspector Isah Musa and Inspector Yusuf Gambo.
Following the ambush, the Divisional Police Officer(DPO),SP Auwalu Ilu, led a reinforcement team to the scene, rescuing the injured officers and evacuating the fallen personnel to General Hospital in Darazo.
Commissioner of Police( CP) Sani-Omolori Aliyu, visited the scene and extended condolences to the families of the deceased officers. He reassured the public that the command would hunt down the perpetrators , who he assured would face justice.
He described the incident as a significant setback,but reiterated the Command’s resolve to remain “fierce, tireless and relentless” in safeguarding the lives and property of residents of the state.
He said ntense operations were ongoing to track and arrest those responsible for the attack.
