In a statement signed by him on June 27, Mark reportedly stated that the PDP’s leadership problem was the primary cause of his resignation.
Mark, a founding member of the PDP, said the party has been ridiculed by the public due to recent events that have left it a shell of its former self, characterized by growing divisions, an ongoing leadership crisis, and irreconcilable conflicts.
The former Senate president resigned after being named as one of the acting leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is supported by the coalition.
“I bring warm greetings to you and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otukpo Ward 1, and by extension, to the entire Benue State and Nigeria,” the statement said. I’m writing to formally notify you that I’ve decided to leave the party with immediate effect. As you may remember, I have consistently upheld the PDP’s principles with steadfastness and fervor. I vowed to stay the last guy standing even after almost all party members left after our defeat in the 2015 presidential election.

“Without coming across as immodest, my unwavering efforts to rebuild, unite, and reposition the party have helped the PDP regain its national prominence and become the party of choice for many Nigerians.
But recent events characterized by widening gaps, an ongoing leadership crisis, and intractable disagreements have diminished the party to a ghost of its former self and exposed it to public mockery.
In order to help save our country and protect our hard-won democracy, I have decided to join the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria after extensive discussions with my family, friends, and political allies.
