2027: Ajadi Tells Nigerians to Reject Politicians Who Failed to Deliver

In the 2023 electioneering campaigns, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a South-West chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), encouraged Nigerians to reject any political party or candidate who has not kept their electoral pledges.

Using the previous two years’ performance as a benchmark, Ajadi urged voters to evaluate parties’ and their candidates’ past performance closely in the lead-up to the 2027 elections in a statement released on Sunday.

The lived reality of many Nigerians now reflects rising hardship and unfulfilled obligations, particularly from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), he bemoaned, notwithstanding the large promises made by politicians during the 2023 elections.

In the past two years, Nigerians’ quality of living has deteriorated despite promises from political parties and officials, according to Ajadi. Through its Renewed Hope Agenda, the ruling APC at the center gave Nigerians hope, but the country’s economic collapse has left many living in despair.

According to him, a large number of Nigerians are currently living like paupers and enduring daily struggles due to financial difficulties.

He pointed to the commitment of reliable electricity across the country as one of the unmet promises, pointing out that millions of people remain without power in spite of official guarantees.

The proposal to remove fuel subsidies was also criticized by Ajadi, who claimed that it was put into place without sufficient palliatives, making petroleum goods costly for the typical Nigerian.

He claimed that the costs of petroleum goods were now out of reach for the typical Nigerian due to the elimination of subsidies without the supply of substitute palliatives and relief supplies. “The multiplier effects of this have further devalued the naira and worsened inflation.”

He urged the government to act immediately to stabilize the national currency and boost the economy, calling the current situation of the naira “shameful,” particularly when contrasted with the CFA franc used in neighboring West African nations.

By holding political parties responsible in the 2027 elections, Ajadi challenged Nigerians to take control of their own fate.

“As we prepare for the general election in 2027, I encourage the people to evaluate the political parties’ and politicians’ performances, assessing the extent to which they have delivered on their commitments, prior to casting their ballots,” Ambassador Ajadi said.
