Gunmen, yesterday,reportedly attacked Oko and Ekwulobia communities in Orumba North and Aguata Local Government Areas, killing about four persons as many got injured.
The incident occurred around the newly constructed Ekwulobia flyover and the Oko Divisional Police Headquarters nearly one month after similar attacks claimed several lives in June, 2025, as some equally got kidnapped.
Some viral videos showed the gunmen jubilating and singing on top of the newly constructed Ekwulobia bridge as they shot sporadically on air as people scamper for safety.
It was learnt that they also opened fire and set ablaze security van belonging to governor Chukwuma Soludo’s security outfit, Agunaechemba.

However, Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement confirmed the incident, but claimed that the gunmen were repelled by a combined team of security operatives and two rifles:an AK-47 and an automatic pump action gun, as well as four vehicles were recovered.
“The Armed criminals unprovokedly shot indiscriminately under the Ekwulobia flyover and upon the swift response of the Joint Security Team, engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel. Regrettably, the incident recorded the death of two unsuspecting members of the public and the burning of a brown Toyota Sienna vehicle allegedly belonging to the Anambra State Vigilante Group.
” Meanwhile, the bodies have been recovered and deposited in the morgue. No casualties were recorded as the aggressive pursuit by the Joint Security Team of the assailants continues in the area,” he noted, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Dr Ikioye Orutugu has deployed security measures to forestall any recurrence and arrest the perpetrators.
