The 26th Democracy Day military parade, which was supposed to take place on Thursday, June 12, 2025, has been canceled by the federal government.
The Inter-Ministerial Committee on the celebration of Democracy Day has announced that President Bola Tinubu will give a national speech at 7 a.m. on Thursday, skipping the customary Democracy Day procession that has been held in the past.
At noon on the other hand, President Tinubu will take part in a special joint session of the National Assembly.

Discussions on the State of the Nation, analyses of Nigeria’s democratic path, and fresh calls for reform and national unity are expected to be covered in this joint session.

A public lecture is scheduled for later that day at 4 p.m. at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
According to reports, the theme of the event is “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms,” and it will bring together government officials, political leaders, and civil society players to reflect on the nation’s democratic path.

In order to enhance democratic institutions and reforms, the statement called on the people to participate in the national dialogue and watch the broadcast.
