The departure of Atiku Abubakar, a former presidential candidate, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been disregarded by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
“It is better for those who are holding the party down to quit,” he said, adding that everyone is free to enter and leave.
At the 10th anniversary of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, ruling the state, the governor made this statement in an interview with reporters in Akure, the capital of Ondo state.
The governor responded to a question about Atiku’s departure from the party by saying, “Politics is a game of interest.” As a party, I don’t believe that will hurt the PDP in any way.
An institution is the People’s Democratic Party. We can come and go as we like. It is preferable for anyone who will oppress the PDP to resign.
“I don’t see ADC as a threat to PDP,” Makinde stated in response to a question on whether the Africa Democratic Congress is a danger to the PDP.
The objective is almost the same. You can associate with others and see what can be done if you are unhappy with the speed and pace of government.
We must all understand, however, that although players, governors, and presidents come and go, our state and nation will always exist.

The governor argued in favor of traditional rulers having a constitutional role in his talk, “The Role of Nigeria’s Traditional Institutions in Nation Building: Impediments, Impacts, and Prospects.”
According to Makinde, certain measures have been made by his administration in Oyo State to include traditional institutions into the framework of governance.
“We have been working well with traditional institutions in Oyo State, and we have had excellent outcomes from these collaborations,” he said.
To stop them from floating, we are working to give them a constitutional role. In addition to being able to contribute and participate, we can also hold them responsible.
“We formalized their participation in the State Security Council. The fathers of our monarchy are not spectators. They act as first responders, peacekeepers, and sources of local intelligence.
