Despite an appeal filed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio contesting the ruling, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has announced her desire to return to her duties at the Senate on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in accordance with a court ruling.
Speaking at a community empowerment event in her area, Akpoti-Uduaghan reportedly stated that although her suspension may have hindered her legislative progress, it did not stop her from helping her constituents.
The legislator from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said resolutely, “I have about two months left before the six months are up. But with God’s special mercy, I have written to the Senate once more to inform them that I will be returning on Tuesday, the 22nd.
Since the court made the decision on that, I will be present. They now claim that it is an order, even though it is actually a decision.
Her remarks come after a recent clarification that the court decided that her suspension was lawful but did not specifically issue an order for the Senate to reinstate her.

As she considered the effects of her suspension, Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that while it hindered her ability to carry out the legislative portion of her responsibilities, it did not prevent her from advocating for her constituents.
“I did mention that every senator has three main functions: Representative, which is what I’m doing; Legislative, which is making laws and reviewing treaties; and Oversight, which is supervising ministers and agencies,” she stated.
She emphasized that she is still in contact with her constituents and that she has been successful in getting their issues represented in the federal budget. She continued, “I obviously miss posting my bills there, but it didn’t stop me from working.”
The senator attested to having properly written to the Senate leadership to let them know that she would be returning on Tuesday.
