The astounding ₦39 billion spent on the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre (ICC) restoration has been characterized as a swindle by Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist Deji Adeyanju.
As you may remember, President Tinubu put the ICC into service in June after Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, rebuilt it.
After spending ₦39 billion on renovations, the ICC—which was constructed in 1991 under the administration of former Military President Ibrahim Babangida—was renamed the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre.
At a recent news conference, Wike also asserted that the ICC is currently making up to ₦700 million as a result of its renovations.
Adeyanju, however, criticized the ICC’s purportedly dire situation in a post via 𝕏 on Sunday, July 20, 2025.
Adeyanju claimed to have been appalled by the facility’s condition when he attended a birthday celebration there.

He claims that the air conditioners were broken and that he is certain that even “₦5 billion was not put into the place for repairs.”
He wrote: “I felt very sorry for our country yesterday when I went to the Seyi Vodi celebration at ICC. The air conditioner was broken, and I don’t think N5 billion was spent on repairs. It was filled with a maximum of N3 billion. It is impossible to describe what transpired there as anything other than a fraud.
