Professor Okey Ikechukwu, a policy analyst and public affairs commentator, has claimed that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is not prepared to win the 2027 elections.
According to him, the PDP’s house is in such disorder that the party poses no challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
Professor Ikechukwu spoke on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Friday, recalling how the PDP used to be a strong party but lamented that the party has now reached a low point and is striving to recover.
He claimed that unless the PDP can address its internal issue in time for the 2027 elections, it will face a major defeat and be dragged out on a stretcher.
According to the policy analyst, “The PDP is a very strong party, one that ran successful campaigns under (former President) Obasanjo, Audu Ogbe, and even Atiku (Abubakar).” In 2003, I believe there were three campaign teams. It has now dwindled into a sobbing collection of perplexed men and women claiming to be a political party.
“What else does the PDP do now but discuss its disagreements? It does, however, issue press releases blasting the APC on occasion, mistaking this for political opposition.”
Ikechukwu noted that, in addition to losing its status as a dominant party, the PDP has failed to provide meaningful opposition to the existing government.
He regretted that the party has not made itself appealing to either lawmakers or the public.
“The whole point of opposition is that you present a profile that will make you appealing to the next person, that will make someone think, ‘No, no, no, I need this man to replace this other guy; they don’t know what they’re doing.'”
“Please explain what makes the PDP appealing now. “Internally, it is completely disorganized,” he said.
Failure Looms
The policy expert encouraged the PDP to swiftly clean up its act if it wants to gain anything significant out of the 2027 elections.
“So, in the next election, it will participate but will not run; this is incongruous.
“You are taking part in an event but your preparation is such that we know that you are going to get there and get beaten thoroughly and carried out on a stretcher, except a dramatic reconfiguration occurs within that party, with clear attention to the need to modify the optics of people you see in the party,” said Ikechukwu.
Wike Factor
Professor Ikechukwu argued that while the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, is a political asset to any party, the PDP should be embarrassed that the former governor is still a member, given his alleged anti-party activities.

He chastised the PDP for what he described as the party’s incapacity to handle Wike or bring him to heel, stressing that such indices are only making the party look more silly in the political arena.
Ikechukwu replied, “Wike, whether you like him or not, you must ask yourself: Is this man a fool? The response is no. Is he sure what he’s doing? Maybe. Can you dismiss him? The response is no. Given what Wike has done and continues to do, the PDP should be humiliated that he is still a member.
“The PDP should be embarrassed that it was unable to manage such a man, since Wike will be a political asset to whomever he works for. He is a political advantage to the people for whom he is now working. However, allowing him to bestride both lanes and travel at 160 km/h demonstrates that no one is in charge of traffic control.
“With all due respect to the excellent members of that party, the PDP is becoming more absurd by the hour, not by the day. “They should stop fooling themselves.”
