In order to address issues over operating standards, passenger rights, and discipline in Nigeria’s aviation industry, the Senate has announced plans to launch a thorough investigation into recent high-profile airline passenger incidents.
The Senate Committee on Aviation’s chairman, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari (APC, Oyo North), said in a statement on Tuesday that the developments call for “immediate and coordinated action” in order to preserve the industry’s integrity and rebuild public trust.
The probe will be carried out in compliance with the Senate’s constitutional authority, according to Senator Buhari, and will involve important regulatory organizations, airline companies, security agencies, and public interest organizations.
Establishing the facts, reviewing current practices, and ensuring the prompt adoption of any corrective steps are the goals, he clarified.

“We will not let professionalism, safety, or public confidence in our aviation system to be compromised by enforcement breaches or procedural flaws. Accountability will be maintained at all levels by the Senate Committee on Aviation, Buhari said.

In order to stop similar situations from happening again, the committee promised Nigerians that it is actively monitoring the situation and will steer the process toward legally binding solutions.

The investigation comes after two frequently reported cases. Wasiu Ayinde, a singer from Fuji who goes by the stage name KWAM 1, is accused of causing trouble at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport when he tried to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos with a liquid that was later determined to be alcohol.

Aviation security reportedly had to remove the artist from the aircraft after he resisted following security protocols, resulting in a dispute with airline employees.

In the second instance, Comfort Emmanson, a traveler, was recently banned by Ibom Air for reportedly attacking crew members during a journey from Uyo to Lagos. According to the airline, security from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) seized Emmanson from the ramp, placed him under arrest, and turned him over to the police for further examination.
