During a protest in July with retired police officers, Sowore was accused by the police of inciting police mutiny, forgery, and cybercrime. Justice Emeka Nwite will hear the case on the three counts.
Speaking to reporters prior to going into court, Sowore insisted that Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun would not intimidate him.
“Despite the intimidation,” he declared, “I remain resolute and undaunted.” The police and people of Nigeria must be freed from the shackles of the oppressors who have been holding them captive.
The activist arrived accompanied by several of his supporters as well as human rights attorneys Wayne Chikezie Elijah, Alexander Oketa, Abubakar Marshal, and Chike Anago Amanze.

Months prior to this most recent case, Sowore was arraigned on 17 counts of cybercrime offenses in January 2025 for frequently calling Egbetokun “illegal IGP.”
He called for widespread resistance against what he called “constitutional vandalism” after the contentious extension of the IGP’s term, and those accusations were based on a video clip and multiple social media posts.
