Liverpool’s match against Bournemouth tonight will usher in the English Premier League (EPL) 2025/2026 season amid glitzy visuals, record transfers, and an abundance of statistics. Amidst the anticipated razzmatazz, it served as a sneak peek at what to expect from the upcoming season, which is supposed to bring back the old order.

The defending champions, Liverpool, have an extremely difficult assignment ahead of them. Despite weak opposition, Arne Slot won the Reds’ 20th championship in his debut season. Virgil van Dijk and Mohammed Salah are both getting close to their twilight years, and Trent Alexander-Arnold left, but four important additions have come in, including Florian Wirtz at a record price. Manchester City’s hegemony is over as Liverpool becomes the clear favorite to win the title thanks to two defenders and Alexander Isak’s anticipated capture.

Even though Erling Haaland scored goals, Pep Guardiola’s Man City lost their spark after winning four straight Premier League titles, and their performance suffered without Rodri. The Cityzens are anticipated to fight for the championship, more money has been spent, and they will be hoping that things do not collapse as easily as they did the previous season.

However, after a busy summer that saw Victor Gyokores join other wise additions, Arsenal is likely prepared for another title challenge. The Swede’s signing solved Mikel Arteta’s striker problem, but it’s still unclear if the Spanish coach will win the Premier League to establish himself as a top coach rather than Guardiola’s disciple.

But after their unexpected Club World Cup success, Chelsea, led by another protégé of Guardiola, Enzo Maresca, is ready to make a serious run at the Premier League crown. The team now possesses a top-tier midfield and attack after more than 50 acquisitions, supported by the dynamic combo of Estevao and Joao Pedro. Despite their defensive ambiguities, the Blues are ready to close the gap on City and Liverpool in the race for the championship.

In other news, Manchester United, who had their worst Premier League finish the previous season, stuck with Ruben Amorim. To strengthen their goals-shy assault, they signed Benjamin Sesko, the top-scoring under-23 player in Europe, and two proven Premier League scorers, Mathias Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. However, the Red Devils’ transition process can be impacted by midfield and defense issues.

After their disastrous summer, Newcastle United’s growing popularity may stall if Isak leaves, and all eyes will be on Thomas Frank to boost Tottenham’s league results after their successful European run the previous season.

Over the last two seasons, promoted teams have been demoted back to the Championship, and this trend is likely to continue.
