Anambra State Government has suspended eight members of the Agunaechemba Vigilante Group for attacking a female National Youth Corps member (NYSC)in Oba community, Idemili South Local Government of the state.
The victim, Jennifer Elobor, was also stripped naked by the state owned local vigilance group.
The video of the incident which went viral on social media showed where the Agunaechemba group stormed a house said to be a corps members lodge and flogged her mercilessly; a dastardly act which has been widely condemned.
Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Internal Security, Ken Emeakayi, while parading the suspects in Awka, the state capital, said that the eight of them would be handed over to the police for further interrogation and prosecution.
“In further demonstration of our openness and our readiness to be fair to everybody, we are going to take them now with or without the girl and the members of her family and hand them over to the police.
“That is what we are about doing now for everybody to see. We are not shielding anybody. Some people have been insinuating that somebody is trying to sweep the matter under the carpet.
“The governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has not sent us out to molest anybody”, Emeakayi said.
Efforts to get reaction from the police, proved abortive as Anambra state police public relations officer,SP Tochukwu Ikenga, did not pick calls.
