In a major success against kidnapping and banditry in Kogi State, troops of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Oguma, have rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered ₦3.8 million ransom money meant for their release.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the operation took place on November 2,2025, after the troops received credible intelligence on kidnapping activities along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule axis. Reports also indicated that some relatives of the victims were on their way to deliver ransom to secure their release.
He said that while acting on the tip-off, soldiers launched a tactical patrol to Achigili Forest to intercept the kidnappers. However, the troops reportedly came under fire from the armed criminals.
“In the ensuing exchange, the gallant soldiers engaged the bandits with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon two victims along with the ransom money,” the statement said.
The criminals, who fled into the forest with varying degrees of gunshot wounds, left behind the rescued victims and the recovered ₦3,800,000.
After the successful operation, the victims were debriefed to assist in further investigations, while the recovered cash was returned to them. They are currently in safe custody at the military location pending formal handover to the relevant authorities.
The statement reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring citizens that the troops would continue to pursue criminal elements across Kogi State and beyond.
“The Nigerian Army remains resolute and unwavering in its determination to protect lives and property. Members of the public are therefore, enjoined to continually support the military and other security agencies by providing timely and credible information,” Abdullahi added.
The rescue operation marks another milestone in the Army’s ongoing counter-kidnapping and anti-banditry efforts under the 12 Brigade’s operational area.
