As the Ember Months usher in heightened movement, bustling trade, and festive activities across Anambra State, the Police Command has issued a strong security advisory, assuring residents of intensified protection while warning criminals to keep off.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, the Command emphasized that it has activated a robust security architecture to guarantee the safety of Ndi Anambra as the year draws to an end.
According to the statement, September through December typically experience an increase in opportunistic crimes, owing to heavy commercial and social activities. To counter this, the Command has boosted visibility policing, highway patrols, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence-led raids across identified flashpoints. Joint security deployments are currently active in markets, churches, public spaces, and major transit corridors.
CP Orutugu urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary late-night movement, and ensure proper security of homes and businesses. He also encouraged communities to reinforce their local security structures in partnership with the Police.
Motorists were cautioned against reckless driving, overspeeding, and night travel, with the Command stressing the need to service vehicles and obey traffic officers during the busy season.
The advisory further alerted residents to increased cases of online scams, fake investment schemes, fraudulent job offers, and identity theft common during the festive period. The Command urged the public to “verify before you trust,” noting that security is a shared responsibility.
Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and accountability, CP Orutugu assured that all complaints against police personnel will be promptly addressed. He also provided emergency hotlines for swift response to distress situations, intelligence reports, or security requests:
**Control Room Hotline:** 07039194332
