President of the Archbishop Heerey Technical College Old Boys’ Association, Ogidi, Anambra State, Dr. Okechukwu Okafor, has called on Ndigbo at home and in the Diaspora to use this yuletide period to look into areas in which they can develop their communities.
Okafor, in an interview with Daily Sun at the weekend, said Igboland needs urgent development, no matter how small, to bring succour to areas of need in the land.
“Our governments are trying their best but we can’t leave everything for them. We need to look at critical areas where we can assist the people. It could be building of boreholes, lighting up dark areas with solar energy or looking at your old school and doing some projects in the schools.
“For instance, I am the president of Archbishop Heerey Technical College, former Boys’ Secondary School, Ogidi, Anambra State. When we met during one of our gatherings, we discovered that our people needed a multipurpose hall, and that our old school needs a befitting staff office. So, we started fundraising and built a multipurpose hall, which accommodates the staff office. We have completed the project and will inaugurate it and hand if over to the school authorities on December 30, 2025, under the chairmanship of Chief Sam Anyabwuraku (Obataobie of Ogidi) and the special guest of honour will be His Grace, Valerian Maduka Okeke, Catholic archbishop of Onitsha, while the royal father of the day is Igwe Alex Uzodinma the Onyido of Ogidi.”
Okafor said important sons and daughters of Ogidi, both home and in the Diaspora, are expected to grace the occasion and will use the opportunity to reflect and project other areas to touch to add value to the community.
He advised sons and daughters of Ogidi to grace the occasion in their numbers as it would be a landmark event.
