Three staff of the Boluwaduro and Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun State have been arrested for allegedly carting away documents from the council.

When the local government staff resumed after their eleven months strike on Monday, the staffs were said to be carting away documents before they were caught.

A woman simply identified as Felicia was arrested by security operatives at the Boluwaduro Local Government Secretariat while in possession of government properties.

The arrest followed reports that she was attempting to smuggle government items and official documents out of the secretariat through the perimeter fence.

Saheed Omokanye, a media aide in the council, confirmed the arrest of the woman.

A man whose name was not ascertained was also allegedly arrested at the secretariat.

Similarly, a man was reportedly caught at Egbedore local government with some files, which he could not explain where he was taking them to.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, has warned against arrests and harassment of Osun local government workers, vowing to take labour action if the situation does not stop forthwith.

He said reports from the local governments showed police actively supporting some politicians parading and humiliating some local government workers, warning that “the development is unacceptable for the police to be involved in such disgraceful act.”

Arapasopo posited that workers should not be criminalised for complying with public service rules at their place of work, saying “our members have done nothing wrong and this harassment should stop without delay.

“We have seen videos and pictures of our members being forced to kneel down. We condemn this conduct. We call on the police to release them. We declared our solidarity with our members. The police should stop being used by the APC on such illegal roles.

“The APC is pushing to plunge Osun into crisis. They want to create mayhem. We will not help them to destroy our state. We will resist legally and lawfully. We are a pressure group,” Arapasopo said.
