The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police, Ali Giwa, as the Force New Media Officer of the Nigeria Police Force.

The appointment is part of efforts by the police leadership to strengthen its digital communication framework and enhance engagement with the public through online platforms.

The former Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development on Sunday in a post on the social media platform X.

“Equally, the IGP has approved the appointment of CSP Ali Giwa as Force New Media Officer,” Hundeyin wrote.

The position forms part of the newly established New Media Office at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, which is expected to improve the police’s digital outreach and public awareness of its activities and operations.

Giwa, a seasoned police officer with more than 15 years of service, currently works as a cybersecurity specialist at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center in Abuja.

Over the years, he has gained experience in law enforcement operations, public order management, cybercrime investigation and cybersecurity.

He previously served as Police Assistant to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in the Department of Logistics and Supply between September 2023 and December 2024.

The new Force New Media Officer has also held several communication and public relations roles within the police system. These include serving as Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society Limited and as Assistant Police Public Relations Officer at the Obalende Annex in Lagos.

He also worked as Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command.

Beyond public relations duties, Giwa has handled various operational responsibilities including crime officer, surveillance officer and human rights officer across several police formations in Lagos.

His appointment comes shortly after the Inspector-General approved the appointment of Anthony Okon Placid, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, as the new Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force.
