Community leaders in Kaduna State have dismissed reports claiming that 31 people abducted during an Easter church service in Ariko, Kachia Local Government , have been rescued by security forces, saying that kidnappers have confirmed that the victims are in their custody.
In a statement yesterday, the Kuturmi Development Association (KUDA) described the widely circulated reports as “false, misleading, and not reflective of the current si8tuation on the ground.”
The statement, signed by KUDA President Joseph David Ariko and Publicity Secretary Manasseh Samuel, clarified that all the victims remain in captivity.
According to the group, families of the abducted individuals are still in contact with the kidnappers, who have confirmed that the victims have safely arrived at their camp.
“This clearly invalidates any claim of a successful rescue operation,” the statement said.
The group expressed concern over the spread of unverified information, warning that such reports could create confusion, raise false hope among affected families, and erode public trust in official communication.
While acknowledging ongoing efforts by security agencies to address insecurity, KUDA urged authorities, including the Nigerian Army, to ensure that only accurate and verified information is made public, particularly on matters involving human lives.
“The safe return of the abducted persons remains our utmost priority,” the statement added, calling for intensified and coordinated efforts to secure their unconditional release.
The association also expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and pledged to provide updates as credible information becomes available.
The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of Kaduna State, where cases of abduction by armed groups have persisted despite increased military operations.
