Kidnappers have collected ransom from the family of 80-year-old man who died in captivity in Delta State.
The old man had contracted his abductors for the renovation of his one story building in Asaba , but they ended up abducting him and while the victim wanted to shout for help ,his abductors used something to cover his mouth and nose and the man suffocated and died.
The daring kidnappers did not relent from their quest for money as they called the man’s son, informing him that his father has been kidnapped and demanded a #2million ransom.
Not knowing that his father had been killed, his son paid the ransom, but he later discovered that his father had been murdered before the ransom was demanded and paid.
One of the suspects, kehinde ,who the Delta State Police Command traced to Lagos and picked, told how they killed the man .
He said,” He had contacted us to do the repairs of his house which he wanted to rent to tenants. He was putting pressure on us ,so,an idea came that he might have big money, so, we decided to kidnap him for ransom. When we went to the compound, we lured him upstairs, where we told him that we wanted to show him something concerning his plumbing issue. When he came upstairs, we forced him to sit down on the floor. When he wanted to shout, we covered his mouth and he started shaking. We ran down stair, my accomplice, Egbon, brought his phone. He removed the SIM card ,put it in another phone and he saw his son’s phone number and contacted him and demanded #2million. We shared the money into two,so, I got #1milion. We sold the phone and dumped his motorcycle somewhere. I ran to Lagos. I am surprised how the police picked me up in Lagos.”
Delta state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, said,” Instead of taking him to the hospital, they left him to die, and went ahead to call his son, demanded ransom of #2,000,000 which the son paid to them. It is always advisable not to make some certain movements alone, especially when you are dealing with people you dont know, you never can tell.
” The Command will soon pick the other suspect at large. I want to advise that the public should desist from buying used phone. It is criminal to buy stolen goods.”
