A violent rainstorm has left a trail of destruction in Dokan Mai-Jama’a, a community in Chikun Local Government,Kaduna State, killing two residents and destroying more than 50 homes.
The storm, which struck around 6:41 p.m. on Monday, lasted less than an hour but unleashed strong winds that tore off rooftops, flattened buildings, and displaced dozens of families.
Confirming the incident, the Village Head, Alhaji Hamisu Tukur, said the scale of damage was severe, with entire households wiped out and many residents now without shelter.
A visit to the area revealed scenes of distress, as affected families scrambled for safety and temporary refuge.
Some residents lost their homes completely, while others were left with badly damaged structures, exposing them to the elements.
Survivors are now calling on the Kaduna State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the State Emergency Management Agency to urgently intervene with relief support.
The impact of the storm extended beyond Dokan Mai-Jama’a to nearby Sabon Gyero in Millennium City, where several houses were damaged and more than ten perimeter fences destroyed.
The downpour also disrupted traffic, as a major road in the area was blocked, forcing motorists to find alternative routes.
Meanwhile, officials of the National Emergency Management Agency have arrived in the community to carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the damage, raising hopes of imminent relief for affected residents.
