The Ifo and Sango Ota Divisions of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected robbers and recovered three stolen vehicles in separate intelligence-led operations.
The operations were led by the Divisional Police Officers, CSP Kamorudeen Olabisi of Ifo Division and CSP Idowu G. Olatunji of Sango Division.
Recovered items included two live cartridges, foreign currencies, one So-Safe Corps uniform, one MP3 sound system and a plasma television set.
The suspects were identified as Mohammed Adeniyi Usman, alias “Mandela,” 48, and Abiodun Ogunojukan, alias “Ilasa,” 38.
In a statement, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the breakthrough followed sustained intelligence-led investigations into reported cases of armed robbery and vehicle snatching within the divisions’ areas of responsibility.
According to him, detectives from the Ifo Division, acting on credible intelligence on May 10, stormed a suspected criminal hideout in Adeleye, Itele, Ota, where stolen vehicles were allegedly concealed.
“On arrival at about 4:00 p.m., operatives sighted suspected stolen vehicles within the premises and immediately cordoned off the area while laying ambush for the occupants, who were absent at the time,” he said.
Babaseyi added that the operation yielded results at about 10:35 p.m. with the arrest of Usman.
He said a search of the premises led to the recovery of a Toyota Corolla belonging to a complainant, a Toyota Venza allegedly stolen at gunpoint on April 26, 2026, at Ilese-Awo, Abeokuta, and a Honda Crosstour reportedly snatched during another robbery operation at Ijoko, Ota.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is part of a wider criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery and vehicle snatching within Ogun State and beyond,” he added.
The police spokesman further disclosed that another intelligence-led operation carried out on May 11 at about 5:00 p.m. led operatives to Sango-Ota Under Bridge, where Ogunojukan was arrested.
According to him, the suspect confessed to involvement in the crimes and assisted the police with useful information to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover additional stolen vehicles.
“All recovered exhibits have been properly documented and secured. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism, intelligence-led policing approach and swift response.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property and the sustained clampdown on criminal elements across the state.
Babaseyi urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information through the Command’s emergency lines.
