The office and armoury of Mobile Police 13 (Mopol 13) unit of the Nigeria Police Force, in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, has been gutted by fire.
The fire outbreak which occurred yesteday, January 4, 2026, destroyed several office rooms and the armoury section.
The police facility was caught in flames, with the office buildings and armoury completely razed to ashes.
A witness who didn’t want to be named, told newsmen that the fire sparked off from one of the offices and spread to others.
“I was on morning duty and at about 10am or thereabout, I saw smoke emanating from the Squadron Commander’s office.
“I tried to inquire, then the next thing, I saw heavy flame from the Squadron Commander’s office. Everything got burnt.
“I quickly called my boss who later called for fire service men. But before the fire officials arrived, the whole place was engulfed by fire,” the source said.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire was yet- to- be ascertained.
Meanwhile, the Benue State Police command has confirmed the incidence.
Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet who confirmed the incidence, promised to get back to journalists.
She simply said, “Yes,I’m aware of the fire outbreak at the Mopol 13 facility in Makurdi, but I will get back to you.”
